Day 2: online rally

The second day of the UCU strike for pay, working conditions, equality and against casualisation and against the attack on our pensions. I spent all of the morning on the KB picket line (see extra). It was a fine but cold day. We had some great conversations on sustainability, fossil fuels and renewables. Yet again the picket line proves to be a good place to catch up with people. In many ways that is exactly one of the issues we are striking against: we are all so occupied with the minutae of our jobs that we don't have the space and time to think about the bigger issues and engage with them. The UCU Scotland rally scheduled for this afternoon was moved to the virtual world. I was quite skeptical and I guess it won't have been very visible. On the plus side it was very easy to follow the excellent speeches. If you are interested you can watch it again on youtube. Stephen Reicher's speech (from minute 31) was particularly good.
