The Leccy Runs Through It
I got a clear view of the fallen trees that took out our electricity last Friday night, the wind just seems to have pushed it's way into the forest. I'm actually surprised (ish) how narrow the corridor is and how tall the trees are, given the power supply company trim trees in our garden every 5 years, in case any of the branches even look at the cables going overhead - it did happen once, bang, power cut. Although the fallen trees are still there, the lines have been put back up over them and I assume they will revisit to tidy up one day, maybe...
We had a full day of power on Wednesday, so to cure the withdrawal symptoms, what better day to get our electricty stupid meter upgraded to the smart version. They tried it once before and immediately backed off as they said "too many old wires and boxes, not worth it mate" but this time they soldiered on and rearranged it all, which took 90 mins, without power, jeez it was cold and my laptop ran out of power so had to stop working, ach. We had thought our fridge/freezer couldn't cope on the generator, but actually it is done in, so we need to fix/replace, while living out of a cool box.
I was shocked to see some footage of the John Muir (of US national parks) Country Park devistation, most of it is gone. It's located right on the coast where the storm came in. Just a bit further down the coast at St Abbs (New Asgard for Marvel's Thor), they reckon 800 seal pups died. And still there are homes without power. Ah well, puts things into perspective.
