In all Catholic churches there used to be many confession booths where the parishioners told their sins to the priest sitting there expecting to be absolved of those sins.
I think these ATMs look a bit like those confession booths, only that in them you receive money or pay bills but they do not absolve you of your guilt, on the contrary, you feel guilty for spending so much!
