Neptune Park
Today's the day ........................ to demolish
It's always a bit sad when a house, that has been around for quite a while and has become part of the landscape of a town, is demolished.
This grand house was called Neptune Park and it stood on the Tongland Road on the outskirts of Kirkcudbright. It occupies an elevated site looking westwards over the River Dee. I'm not sure when it was built but I imagine it would have been the late 1800s. It has had numerous owners and tenants over the years - but probably one of the more famous was the artist William Hanna Clarke who lived there from 1918 - 1923. It is in the process of being demolished so that a completely new, modern house can be built. It won't be long either before it's gone. The extra shows what it looked like a week or so ago.
So I hope they build something that looks interesting in its place - but it will be a long time before it will gather the same amount of history as the old one most surely has ...................
