Christmas carrots
For the second year in a row, Woolworths is selling ‘reindeer carrots’. According to their website, 51% of Australian households with kids are expected to leave a carrot out on Christmas Eve for Santa’s reindeer. Really? Well, the figure comes from a survey of 1,006 respondents commissioned by Woolworths in 2016. We are told it equates to an extra 140,000 kg of medium size carrots to be bought by families in the lead up to Christmas.
So farmers and Woolworths sell more carrots, WIRES gets 10cents for each bag of carrots sold, and Rudolph and the other reindeer are well nourished and strong enough to pull the sleigh.
What could be wrong with that? Except perhaps that it doesn’t really seem to have much to do with Christmas?
