ODORI - "Japanese traditional dance"
Today I was very lucky to see again Gauze Moon rehearsing for today's Miyako-Odori, "Dance of the Capital" and by Capital referring to Heian-ky?/Kyoto (Heian Palace), 1180 - 1868, when Kyoto was the capital of Japan.
From March 25th to May 12th, four of the five Hanamachi perform Odori in their own Kaburenjo, "Theatre" as follow:
KAMISHICHIKEN:- Kitano-Odori (03/25 to 04/07)
GION KOBU:- Miyako-Odori (04/01 to 04/29)
MIYAGAWACHO:- Kyo-Odori (04/08 to 04/19)
PONTOCHO:- Kamogawa-Odori (05/01 to 05/12)
This an excellent time to visit Kyoto, not only to experience the Hanami-time but to go to see the different Odori. Tickets for the Odori are available for anyone that wish to see the Odori and include a Tea Ceremony performed normally by a Geiko and the Matcha Tea served by a Maiko just before the performance.
