Lytham St Anne’s

A brilliant day on the Fylde Coast and Blackpool. We parked in Lytham, immediately repairing to the Beach Cafe for coffee and Eccles cake.

We then walked along the beach as far as the tram terminus at Starr Gate into a cold northerly breeze towards blue skies with the sun tantalising hidden behind some low cloud.

I did an acrobatic tumble trying to run backwards to take photos of the others, much to the amusement of everyone around. The walk back was less cold with the sun at last dipping below the clouds to give the most amazing golden light.

It was an early dinner at Whelan’s fish and chip restaurant in Lytham before driving back up to Starr Gate to catch a tram to Bispham to see the Blackpool Illuminations. We walked back from there to Central Pier where we caught the tram back to the terminus. The illuminations go on into January this season instead of ending in November.

As far as I can remember, this is the first time I’ve seen the Illuminations. Susan’s and Chris have not seen them and the former Mrs T only when she was a teenager.

They were a good but quiet experience. No road traffic and no crowds of people. The only traffic, apart from the trams was lots of families their bikes all decorated with Christmas lights. A far cry from the crowded and traffic congested image I had in my mind.

Hope you like the extras. Thank you for your lovely comments on yesterday’s blip. It’s good that we’re all easy in each other’s company.
