Pier in Mono

Another trip over to the building society in Cromer today, so I nipped down to the front for a photo of the pier. Yet another very cold and wet day today, with the next storm due to pass over the UK tomorrow.

Day 630 / Day 141 of Step 4 of Roadmap Easing (for my record only)
The UK reported 51,459 new cases today. 90 new cases of Omicron were reported: 64 in England, 23 in Scotland and 3 in Wales (now 336 in total). The Health Secretary has confirmed there is now community transmission across multiple regions of England. A UEA Professor and expert in infectious diseases has said that Omicron could 'become the dominant variant probably within the next few weeks or a month or so at least.' The ONS says that total deaths in the UK with Covid on the death certificate now total 170,000. Tim Spector from the Covid Zoe app said that 'we're estimating that somewhere between 1 in 3 and 1 in 4 colds are actually due to Covid' and that we should 'get more people to isolate for at least a few days with cold-like symptoms.' Scotland's deputy first minister want people to take lateral flow tests 'more frequently when they are socialising and interacting with others.' From today in Italy, unvaccinated people are excluded from indoor restaurants, theatres and museums. 68 doctors and nurses in Malaga, Spain tested positive for Covid after a xmas party on 1st Dec (they had rapid tests or third jabs before attending). An epidemilogist has become the new Health Secretary in Germany - now that's a good idea. Dame Sarah Gilbert has said 'We cannot allow a situation where we have gone through all we have gone through, and then find that the enormous economic losses we have sustained mean that there is still no funding for pandemic preparedness.'
