Little Edinburgh

My Dear Princess and Dear Friends,

So here I am on Princes Street. Kind of. Sort of. Not really.

Today I am in Dunedin, which was founded by Scots and is sort of based on Edinburgh. They have a Corstorphine too. I drove through it.

And today started out very stressfully because (once again) I nearly missed my plane. Traffic was terrible because of flooding (it was PISHING in Wellington) and I literally only just made it with no time at all to stop for coffee and a pastry. I managed to grab myself a Twix for breakfast, which I do not recommend.

I was hoping to relax a little in Dunedin. The installers were not due to arrive until three, but as soon as I got into my hotel room they told me they would be there at noon.

GODAMMIT I WANT MY COFFEE.

On the other hand, it was kind of good that they started early. April arrived at 2pm (she drove from Christchurch) but by the time she got here they were well underway and had nearly finished one room by 4.30 when we decided to call it a day.

People are really paranoid about "the 'rona" here now. This is despite the fact that we now have vaccine passes. I think it is the acceptance that we are going to let it spread around the country and hope for the best that the high vaccination rates will protect us. So in the office, people kept their distance and we had to wear masks all day. Consequently, it wasn't as friendly or fun as last week's Whakatāne install.

However, as you know, I like to make my OWN fun. So I had asked April what movies she wanted to see in my "In-Room Hotel Movie Theatre". She asked for "Cruella" which I was not expecting to enjoy as much as I did. It was a surprising amount of fun and so we sat in my room and had room service and laughed at Emma Stone, projected onto a sheet on one wall of the room.

We also managed a quick gamble in the hotel casino. Mainly so we could say we had done it. We gambled away $20 of chips on roulette in about 5 minutes. But April did not get addicted and I did not lose my vast fortune. This is because we knew we had Emma Stone waiting.

Tomorrow will be Dunedin install day 2. Hopefully we will get it all done by 5pm. Mainly because it is "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" in my room afterward.

S.
