Harbour pre-season view
Another lovely sunny but definitely chilly day!
The harbour is ready to accept visiting yachts and there are already a few hardy souls sitting in boats inside the Victoria marina...I used to be that brave...not sure what happened...I guess I grew sensible!
The pontoons you can see in this shot are "waiting" pontoons because Guernsey has very large tides.
Victoria marina has a sill across the entrance which retains a certain depth of water throughout the marina when the tide is "out".
Yachts arriving when there is insufficient water over the sill for entry are rafted up on these pontoons and then, when the sill depth is appropriate, the marina staff herd them into the marina. In theory in the same order that they arrived, so that no pushing, shoving, biting or scratching takes place!...just kidding!
Other marinas often do not have this type of system hence it can be like getting a seat on a passenger aircraft with free seating, chaos!
