‘Bruntsfield Ghost Sign’

This ghost sign on the side of a tenement - on one of the main roads into Edinburgh - has always puzzled me. It’s on painted wood, and in what looks like a single boarded up window (except I’m not sure that it really is a boarded up window!)

Beautiful lettering, now in the process of being eaten away by wind and rain over the years…

Raises lots of questions. How old is the sign? When was Mr Dolan’s business active? 

Also - where did he work from, how to contact him? Was there more at the bottom of the sign - painted over when his business ceased?
