Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

A good year for it!

I know a few trees on Edinburgh which have mistletoe but I'm always taken aback when in Hampshire by the amount there is. I see it on limes, sycamores, willows and this is on silver birch. You can see the tree on the extra. It's only a young tree and the clumps are low down. I also have a feeling that back home they might have been stripped and sold! This lowest clump is over 2 feet in diameter.
I had a day to kill today so revisited some of my favourite haunts. Stockbridge, where the river runs down alongside the main street, but no ducks or fish today. I visited one of my favourite craft shops and may have bought a little something or two. I went back to Romsey next, where my dad lived for 24 years. I visited the charity shops, of course, and had a delicious freshly made jam and cheese croissant on a small Swiss bistro/wine bar which has moved into what was best described as an old lady cardigan and pinny shop. I never went into the shop but the current establishment is lovely. The owner apologised that he was going to have to bake my croissant from scratch as they had sold out.... I was not upset!
From there it was back to the airport returning my rental car right on time at 2.30. I had to leave the car keys in a drop box, which I didn't like as I couldn't check over the car with the agency, however fingers crossed all is OK as I didn't do anything to it! It's amazing how one worries about such things though, I think it's my Scottish guilt complex kicking in - I didn't do anything but if anything is wrong it's probably my fault anyway! All checked in and my tiny little plane boards at 3.30.
Apart from the reason that I was here, it has been lovely to be back in Hampshire. The weather is lovely today although they are all complaining that it's cold.... the sun is shining, there's no wind and its 9 degrees. Positively tropical so far as I'm concerned!
Keep safe folks.
