Holwell Lawn
It's the Wide on Wednesday challenge today (hosted by BobsBlips) and the theme today is 'With Nature'.
I decided to go out this morning as the day was looking good. I headed up to Holwell Lawn on Dartmoor. I usually go up there at bluebell time because there's always a good display here but that hawthorn tree is a star turn on it's own. The uneven drystone wall is lovely too and those are Haytor Rocks that you see on the skyline.
Like many moorland areas there must be hundreds of miles of drystone walls here. Some were built by napoleonic prisoners of war, some by work gangs brought in from Ireland and no doubt many built by farm labourers when labour was cheap and the stones were free and littered around everywhere.
The fields are used by the South Devon (Moorland) pony club and although it was chilly the sun was shining and it looked lovely. I reached the tree and took a few shots and all of a sudden it clouded over and started slinging hailstones at me. I beat a hasty retreat with the hailstones stinging my face for the second time in three days.
