HeLa Cells
To be seen in Bristol University grounds this statue in memory of a Henrietta Lacks who died in1951.
She was the first person whose cells, having been extracted from a
tumour ,were the first to grow, and divide outside her body and making them the first human immortal cell line.
So? Henrietta's cells have been used extensively in Biomedical research and associated with resultant discoveries including vaccines for Polio, Sars, Covid19...
