3rd Sunday in.....

...... Advent.
Today as well as celebrating HOPE we celebrated Christingle attributed to the children's society. This was 1st celebrated in Germany in 1747 not coming to the UK until 1958 and 1st celebrated at Lincoln Cathedral ( which incidentally has just been seen in songs of praise!)
Christingle's are made up of an Orange representing the World with a Red ribbon around the centre representing Jesus' blood ( given up so we may live) 4 Sticks representing 4 seasons on which are put sweets representing the food we eat from each region in each season ( tho' must say we seem to get whatever in whatever season now!) in the centre is a Candle representing the light of the world. The organisation were happy to make these to distribute to the congregation when the candles were lit . Also collecting box 's to be returned the 1st Sunday in February when the money will go to the children's society.
Happy Sunday everyone.

Thoughtful ...... about all the good things we enjoy and how fortunate we are.
