Carneddau Mohican
We wake this morning to milder weather and - despite the BBC rain forecast - there is actually blue sky. Needing to make the most of this, we head off out. We consider heading up the Conwy valley, but the clouds are bruised and ominous, so we stay closer to the coast in the reserve.
But for a couple of robins and some distant gulls, bird life is sadly absent - where are they all? Fortunately, my beloved Carneddau are grazing near to our route - though getting closer does involve some very muddy walking. Usually, these creatures are so singleminded in their grazing that I find it hard to capture them with heads held high, but this youngster seems quite happy to stand on the raised bank and hold my gaze. He’s yet to develop the flowing silky mane so characteristic of this ancient breed, the coarse hair standing up Mohican-like. And as an extra, there’s his confident direct stare against the background of his own Carneddau hills. (Extras really are a double edged sword aren’t they? I love the fact they give you the chance to post additional shots - but you’re always left wondering whether you’ve chosen the right one! )
Very relieved that the final Strictly line up is as I wanted and predicted - but what a lovely guy Rhys is.
