But, then again . . . . .

The Seven Sisters.

I'm a day late posting this as yesterday was busy, trying to do emergency plumbing (unsuccessfully) along with numerous other chores for The Old Lady. Also went down to the station to collect my tickets, don't like leaving that task until the day of the journey in case something goes wrong, and anyway, it does get me out on the bike. The "Seven Sisters" were a planned part of the exercise, they are a group of pine trees on Durdham Down. A number of them have been lost over the years - notably in the 1990 Burns' Day storm - leaving only these three survivors. Even when I was a lad there were only six of them and, close inspection showed that there did not seem to be any gaps so, unless the seventh was in the centre and had vanished without trace, there was someone somewhere who couldn't, or wouldn't, count; perhaps it was the last Labour minister for education, I forget who he was, but I do remember that he didn't know the difference between arithmetic and mathematics.

Attempts at filling in the gaps have resulted in vandalism, so an entirely new group of seven youngsters has been planted in a neat little circle a hundred yards away.

Post script. Have reposted this following discussion below. Have also separated the two runners on the left, one of them is taking the Mickey.
