Christmas at the Orchard

Sunday 12th December finally dawned, not exactly fine weather but good enough and what a great time we had at Dervaig Community Orchard. Lots of people of all ages came along and ate freshly baked pizza, roast chestnuts, mince pies,  kransekake, clootie dumpling and chocolate log, all washed down by hot fruit punch. Many folk had a go at decorating a Yule log and a willow wreath (extras) or making a willow star. Others decorated gingerbread hearts and miniature Christmas trees, some even bought some items from the Orchard Makers craft stall (main). There was a lot of chat with a background of live music from the Mimi Ceilidh Band. Apart from the craft stall, we relied on donations to cover our costs but folk were so generous that also boosted our coffers to help us buy some new fruit trees. Above all, I hope that we fulfilled our aim: to give people happy memories of the special and magical place that is Dervaig Community Orchard.
