Broomrape

This plant has fascinated me since I was a child. It is parasitic, depending on the roots of other plants to supply its nutrients. Unlike most other plants it does not engage in photosynthesis. Apparently it feeds off a variety of plants, which makes it difficult for me to see which is its host.
