Hearken

(Most of) the rest of the A’s: ‘If The Ceiling Were A Kite’ by April Magazine (one of this year’s finest, a kind of a downbeat, lo-fi,  Velvets third on the West Coast joy – a nice, gauzy example of what Glenn Donaldson calls ‘fog pop…’), ‘Humbug’ by the Arctic Monkeys (technically, that one belongs to Tom – I’d forgotten how good it was) and - a genuine rarity, no less – ‘Hearken to the Witches Rune’ by Dave and Toni Arthur – dark, stark, pagan folk music from 1970. I’ve got the second pressing, from 1975, but it’s not been issued, I believe in any form since and that, along with the fact that the Arthurs were mixed up in both the Alex Sanders Coven and Play School, have guaranteed it a certain cult cache. You can read more about on the Haunted Generation blog if you’re interested (and, let’s face it, if you’ve a minute to spare why wouldn’t you be…!) I listened to it twice…
