Ness Point Campsite

CIRCULAR WALK - SOUTH STROMNESS:  PART SIX

28  (Main image)  The shore path had taken us to the gate of the Ness Point Campsite.  Now we have turned left and we are looking up through the deserted campsite (closed for winter).

29   Beyond the campsite and the boatyard there are a few boats.
30  The bay is now to our right and the water just here is shallow and clean and suitable for bathing.  It was a very sunny morning and a seal seemed happy enough to bask in the sunshine on the slipway.  A few of the bathers who are here every day just quietly went ahead with their swim anyway.
31  A bit further on we can look back to Scapa Flow and the slipway.
32  Now we are walking on a two-way street.  In front of us are the 'Double Houses', six houses built on a pier, a row of three back-to-back with the other three.  
33  To our left is the house where we saw a gull tapping on the window a couple of weeks ago.  Now we can see why - we are passing at feeding time.  
34  We are level with the Double Houses now.
35  If we look right over the bay, we can see the 'Graemsay' ferry just starting its journey to Hoy.
36  We are now on the last few yards of our little walk; in the distance we can see the yellow bin that stands near the cannon - back where we started.
