The Mitchell Library
One of Glasgow's most famous landmarks, The Mitchell Library looked amazing today in the early morning sunshine. This is the front facade, part of the competition-winning original library.
The Mitchell Library is one of the largest public reference library's in Europe. The neoclassical building, designed by William B Whitie 1911, contains over two million books and 13 floors of reading rooms.
This is a bit ironic, as I have just heard on the radio that the author Iain Banks (who was a school friend), is terminally ill with cancer. My heart goes out to Iain and his partner Adele and the family.
