St. Denys' Church, Sleaford.........
.................on a sunny but freezing morning! And, yes, the sky really is that blue!
This church dates back to 1180 but, of course, there have been very many additions to it since then and has one of the oldest Broach Spires in the Country.
1370 a substantial part of the Church including the Nave and porch were built.
1430 saw the present chancel and high altar built.
1796 new bells were cast. The Communion rails were designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
1881 saw the installation of a new organ.
In 1884 the tower was struck by lightening and had to be rebuilt.
Coming to this Century, in 2003 a new bell ringing chamber is built.
and in 2008 solar panels were were put on the roof of the South Aisle at a cost of £57,000 - half if which was provided by grants through the British Gonernment's Low Carbon Programme. Very modern!
My picture shows part of the stonework on the East frontage which I think is lovely, especially with the sun shining on it.
Weather very sunny, very windy and blooming cold!!
Hope you have had some sun too.
