"Palazza Vendramin, Calergi, Venice"

This scene was painted by Antonietta Brandeis between 1880 and 1890. She exhibited in Australia at the 1880 Melbourne Exhibition. She was a Czech-born Italian landscape and portrait painter.

Died: 20 March 1926, Florence, Italy.

Richard Wagner, the famous German composer, returned to Venice in 1882 and sub-leased from Count Bardi an entire floor of this building, Palazza Vendramin, Calergi. The apartment was located in the wing overlooking the garden and consisted of 28 rooms, a kitchen and services. 

The composer Franz Liszt also stayed at 'Vendramin-Calergi' at the end of 1882, when he visited his daughter Cosima and his son-in-law.

Some rooms of Wagner's apartment are now used as a museum open to the public in memory of the musician and his love for Venice.
Ca' Vendramin Calergi palace is best remembered as the place where composer Richard Wagner died. Today it is home to the Venice Casino and the Wagner Museum.
