Quiet times
This morning we cycled into town to do some shopping, and cycled back through the cathedral close where the Christmas market is set up. Most years there is an ice rink too and the site is rammed with people. As you can see, today it wasn't exactly busy, which didn't really surprise me. We didn't hang around as none of the stalls took our interest.
This evening we went to see Steven Spielberg's new film of "West Side Story", at our local cinema. It is only a small capacity theatre, with socially distanced seating so we felt safe. We thought the film was excellent. Of course, Leonard Bernstein's music and Stephen Sondheim's lyrics are its enduring strengths, but the 1950s NY sets and choreography and singing in this version were outstanding, too. The fight scene between the Jets and Sharks was particularly gripping. I feel it should be shown to young teenagers as a warning against carrying knives and guns.
