Pizza Oven
Today was a great day... No work got done, but it was awesome for many other reasons.
After last night's shenanigans I got home and attempted to shower myself out of a hangover (shower + bacon & eggs = hangover cured).
I then went in to town to meet a friend, Lyndsey, who is one of those friends who you've known your entire life - she's 2 months older than me and we went to the same play school etc etc etc.
Had a great catch up over a drink and talked about a whole host of subjects ranging from cognitive dissonance, global warming, sustainability, conservation, starting your own business, healthy eating, minimalism, travelling, studying abroad, jobs, working abroad, getting drunk... The list really does go on and it was fascinating stuff. Lyndey's going on from a degree in Geography to wanting to work in conversation so hearing her perspective on things was really intriguing.
For an interesting video (~20 minutes long) on consumerism/sustainability I'd highly recommend watching this video... It really gets you to seriously question something that we've probably all asked ourselves; namely: How can they make *consumer good* for just *ridiculously low price* and has helped me re-assess what I think is important and what I want.
For a much shorter (~60 seconds) video on how interesting the brain is, I'd recommend watching this video. It perfectly sums up what I was talking about weeks ago in 'seeing' photographs. I recently heard the phrase 'You see with your brain, not with your eyes' and that video proves it.
Afterwards I walked up to Luna (a restaurant in Uckfield) where some very good friends of mine work. Barry (the head chef), Nathan (the second chef) and Pino and I used to work at a restaurant called Phish (great name) but when that got sold they moved to Luna. These guys have such a passion (and talent) for cooking it's crazy. When you talk to them, it makes you want to pick up a pan and recipe book and just get to work. They are really very good at what they do, and they love it, too. Hearing about their plans and what's coming up in the future was great and despite not having seen them since December of last year, it really didn't feel like any time had passed at all.
I popped home to eat (I had food to get rid of before heading to Geneva on Wednesday morning) and then nipped back to the restaurant to meet my old boss, Chrissie. Chrissie was the owner of Phish so hearing about how she is now enjoying being able to go out on a Saturday night (rather than work) and what she's doing in her free time was really interesting. She had some great advice to share when we spoke about internships, work and future plans et al.
After the drink it was back to finish my packing (leaving things to the last minute? Obviously!) and make sure I was ready to catch my flight the next morning to see Eve in Switzerland. I also had to tidy up the house before Mum & Dad returned.
TL;DR: Hangover cured with bacon and a shower; caught up with Lyndsey; caught up with the guys from Phish; packed to go to Geneva...
Peace

So I think I should have chosen a smaller aperture (f2.8 is giving too shallow a DOF) but, without wanting to sound like I'm blowing my own trumpet I love the framing, composition and colours in this. This was almost my blip for today because I thought the flames looked awesome but looking at it now, I'm a little more meh about it.
On a side note, if I leave photos for 24 hours before looking at them, I can be a lot more objective, so I might start switching to blipping the previous day (as much as I hate having less to write) in search of improving my photography.
