Cravat

This afternoon we went to Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park in Warwickshire.  It is an old and beautiful house in lovely grounds, with walks, lakes, art installations, a good cafe and is popular with families of all ages!  We went for a general wander around to see what they had in terms of Christmas lights and we also went to see the Grinling Gibbons exhibition.  He lived from 1648 - 1721 and although he was born in Rotterdam he was spotted working in a tiny cottage not far from London and eventually became the King's Carver, responsible for beautiful, delicate nature-related carvings around important buildings in England.  This is a cravat trompe l'oeil carved out of a solid piece of wood.  You can see more information about it in extras.  I would now like to go and see some more of his work!
