Glossy Ibis

There were reports of a glossy ibis seen at Clennon Valley in Paignton so we went there to see if it was still there. Fortunately others were able to show us where the modest but rare bird was feeding on the wet grass of the rugby pitch. (very poor drainage but perfect for an uncommon visitor). It is not a great photo but it was certainly a thrill to see it among the unconcerned crows. It is the third time the bird has been recorded in Torbay, and probably came from Spain or Portugal. It was especially good for Jacqui as this is where she does conservation work once a month, in wellies, and usually clearing the lake weirs of reeds.
