Turrets Syndrome

Our new-ish neighbours are where we were seven years ago - large-scale clearing of a long neglected garden.  

Taking down a forest of out-of-control laurel has made the architecturally-interesting house rather more visible - in particular, their tower which, I have to admit, is rather more stylish than ours.

Apparently the difference between a tower and a turret is whether it reaches the ground.
