Apples and Oranges

By Anitsirk

Late night again. Mostly been knitting today, making misstakes and redoing. But, at least the doll is almost finished. I need hair and fixing threads, and face of course. I've started on the dress and done the topp part. Tomorrow I'll continue with the patterned part. I've been too optimistic with how much time this will take...
While I was knitting I've listened to the podcast I've mentioned before. The first pod was about the Horga mountain and the folktales around it. The story (one version) goes like this: One evening there was a group of people gathered for a dance in the village of Horga (in the county of Hälsingland). They dance to folk music and had so much fun they ignored the church bells ringing for sabbat. They danced and danced and suddenly there was a well dressed stranger in the room. He asked if he could play for them and they said of course! He started playing his violin and people danced. They all danced in a long row that went round and round, faster and faster. The door opened and the man went ahead, playing and playing and they danced after him, one after the other, holding hands. He took them up to the mountain and they kept dancing around and couldn't stop... they dance until there were just bones left, and they kept dancing until their skulls were nothing but dust. It was the devil who had led them in the dance to their deaths.
In some versions, someone sees a glimpse of a hoof on the man and tries to get out from the dance, or get someone else out of the dance, but the magic is too strong and the one trying to get away looses an arm, and the one trying to get someone (usually a betrothed ) is left with just his/her arm. Gruesome story about a real place. And there's folk music called The Horga song if you want to listen. :)
The last pod I listened to was about ghosts and now I'm off to bed. :D
