Day 134: Dreadbox Nymphes
Smaller yet greater in large
This is Nymphes, a 6-voice polyphonic analogue synth from Dreadbox in Athens, Greece; I've their monophonic Typhon synth, and Medusa (a curious hybrid analogue/digital synth) which they made in collaboration with Polyend in Poland. I (pre-)ordered this in September, and it arrived on Saturday!
Dreadbox designed Nymphes this year in response to the constraints of the pandemic (i.e. economic uncertainty, shipping issues, and component shortages), so designed it to be made in-house from readily-available parts. It is very compact, powered by USB, and relatively affordable.
Dreadbox dedicated Nymphes to "all abused and oppressed women" (with the tagline "Smash the patriarchy"), which caused some muttering in certain parts of the (male-dominated) world of music technology.
Nymphes sounds absolutely fab.: very old-fashioned, rather ethereal and unstable, and it certainly has a vibe quite unlike any of my other synths.
