Memories

We were much saddened to learn that David Gulpilil had died in November. He was a pioneering actor who broke barriers in representing Australia's indigenous  people. Over the course of 50 years he appeared in dozens of films and TV series.
My photograph, taken in Suva, Fiji in May 1972 during the Pacific Arts Festival, shows David as young man dancing a part in the Dance of the Brolga Bird. 
The extra is a portrait of two men who were part of the festival contingent from Papua New Guinea. During the festival they stayed with Mrs T. and I, but usually dressed more casually!
