Christmas tree . . .

. . . inside and outside (in the extra). This is the tree that is in the background of yesterday's blip.

December 23 is Night of the Market, a traditional Christmas celebration in Funchal. Bars, restaurants and food stalls are open all night as people make last minute purchases for Christmas. There is carol singing, folk dancing and bands playing. The event is televised live. This year was not quite the same, sadly, although there were still a good number of people around. The current restrictions mean stalls can only sell fruit and vegetables until 2am, but no food or alcohol.
