Family solitaire
A lateral flow endorsed family gathering at Josie’s place in … Swindon. Fab and Louise bring the generations from Bournemouth. I bring three from Bedwyn. Jol and Josie have vast amounts of xmas fayre that we valiantly consume. And the emergency disposal unit, Bessy the dog, experiences only minimal deployment.
Alcohol consumption is constrained by the automotive restrictions that we voluntarily observe. The weather limits the temptation to struggle outside - even if we could have made it over the mounds of gifts.
After dark, mum, Megan and I return, replete, to Bedwyn. No one is any mood for more food. Mum retires to her room. Megan and I make the potentially disastrous choice to watch the entirely not uplifting film, The Place Beyond The Pines. We watch it through to the Boyer end, Megan correctly predicting unlikely plot developments.
Tomorrow, cheese fondue. Wish us luck.
