One daze at a time...

Conceptual photography firing on all cylinders

At the crossroads of the organic and the mechanic, blending the natural and the industrial, Dublin Iris' camera has been trained to record the passage of time and the ineluctable return to Mother Earth.

With horse power visited by sea horses (at high tide) and Shell lubricants inspected by seashells (at low tide), the environment shows the man-made where the true power resides.

This rusting 12,000 liter 16 bivalves engine is slowly becoming a fossil echoing its former fossil-fuel burning days.

Dublin Iris' stage-set manipulation of reality poses interesting and sometimes troubling questions about the nature of our perception of reality and the conventions of picture making. Iris' Poussin-like composing of 'model' figures acting out a scene in order to illustrate part of a story or a drama taken from real life, brings home the troubling ambiguity inherent in all that we see. When there are no figures present in his work, as in Rusty Engine 2013, this ambiguity, though less immediately apparent, is more disquieting.
