The Wart Stone
Today the water in the shallow basin in this lichen encrusted stone was frozen solid. However, the water contained in this stone is said to have magical powers to cure anyone who washes their hands in it of warts.
The stone is set into the wall of Inverallan Kirkyard. There are now no visible remains of the kirk which existed in 1230 and was dedicated to St Futach. Its location by a slight bend in the Spey is typical of churches of that period. From Celtic times onwards water was considered to have special religious significance.
The large hollowed out boulder in the extra is the baptismal font from the kirk.
