Southampton Cenotaph

First World War memorial in Southampton… standing tall since 1920!

There's a India connection to the architect of this memorial, Sir Edwin Lutyens also designed the 'Lutyens Delhi' which includes the Rashtrapati Bhavan or erstwhile Viceroy's House! In recognition of his architectural accomplishments for the British Raj, Lutyens was made a Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire (KCIE) on 1 January 1930.
