Corner Cafe
Every time I pass this wall, which belongs to the Post Office, I wonder why the windows and door were filled in. My mother in law has a comprehensive history of the village shops and I discovered that before it was a Post Office it was the Corner Cafe, a high class confectioners, restaurant and function room - used for weddings, parties, and dancing classes until 1965 when it became a P.O. The windows and door must have been bricked up for security. Years ago one shop had a talking parrot instead of a counter bell. This village is almost a small town now. More than one shop has a ghost ( 100 Park Lane) . It is called George. The book is an
excellent work of local history by Les Durrant with little details of great interest.
