Iced Up....
Yesterday ice was the enemy, creating skating rinks out of driveways and sidewalks and striking fear into the hearts of all us folks who have to drive or walk on that ice...But today ice was not the enemy: it was a joy to behold - at least to those of us who chose to walk along the beaches of Lake Ontario!
My sister and I had felt the need to get out of the house regardless of the dull, dreary weather, as we had been sitting on our butts for far too long! I had been telling her that when I need to get out and clear my head , I go down to the beach, as I always find something there that lifts my spirits...
We were a little skeptical that today would offer up any such experiences or even some decent photos, but...we went anyway. As we approached the beach, we could hear the roar and pounding of the waves crashing on the shore and that sounded promising. We had not expected that..there was really no wind..
But those waves were indeed coming in fast and furious and crashing up on the old dead tree trunks that lie along the shoreline, spraying water onto them over and over again totally encasing them in ice and creating fabulous icicles fringes on their branches.... It was wild...it was energizing..it was awesome....it was like being a kid again, as we dashed in close to the water to get photos and back out fast before the next wave washed up over our boots..it was so good to be laughing...and having fun...
We weren't the only ones ..I would like to think that the ducks out on the lake were having fun too. It was hilarious to watch them. It was like they were learning to ride the waves..little beginner surfers..climbing the face of the next wave...trying to get over the lip before it breaks, and sometimes not managing to do so and getting buried in the whitewater!
We noted that there was not a Canada Goose in sight..only ducks. Seems they were the only ones brave enough to venture out into that water; they had little choice I guess, as the marsh had frozen over.
Our outing had served its purpose..we came back feeling much more energetic, had our hot chocolate and settled in again for the afternoon. A friend dropped in for dinner and before we knew it the evening was gone too! Another day with my sister gone already!
