One

Very lazy day. Stayed in PJs til noon, eating mountains of crepes that M made as we chatted, and the little ones piled all sorts of combinations of stuff onto theirs (the wonder of squirty cream!).
Tried to persuade M of a different approach to what they might do with the Barton house….think his plans for major changes will not only take ages but also get away from the nostalgia capsule that is the point of keeping it from L’s point of view.
AR and Mx loved playing with the big cousins, albeit they keep getting confused about all their names (and genders in Mx’s case who calls H ‘the big brother’ as she’s got short hair!). They kept busy with Lego, chasing the cat, playing Mario cart games, climbing around the bedrooms and watching TV. At one point we asked them to join in an experiment on the relative capacity of different shaped glasses. Mx fell into trap (as did several grown ups!) of underestimating the capacity of some short wide ones but AR immediately pointed out that you shouldn’t just look at the height and that the width was important. That and her talk earlier of infinity not being like other numbers and how she’d talked about it with her daddy rather tickled us….she’s a little scientist in the making,
Played herd mentality again late afternoon, and AR joined us and read out some of the questions. Here she was answering ‘How many is the ideal number of children in a family?….with the rather predictable older sibling answer of ‘one’! Her reasoning was that the parent would only need to make one dinner, the same for them and the child!
Gave them some supper then drove A to Stoke Pages to meet up with her friends who are taking her back to edinburgh tomorrow, and then on to Southgate to drop the kids off. Mt&H had cleared away all of Christmas whilst we were gone and the place looked very clean and tidy….they clearly hadn’t been just relaxing in their child free time. They had managed to go out for dinner and cinema last night though and had had a lovely time. Chatted for a while then back on the road again to T&Kt’s where I had some supper and chatted to them and caught up on all the news of the rest of the families.
As is always the way this time of year I’ve totally lost track of what day it is and what else is planned for the next few days or when I’m going home!
