New Year's Day
This afternoon's wander around Brougham hall, once dubbed the Windsor of the North back in the Victorian times owing to royal visits by King Edward VII and his son, the future King George VI, who became regular guests between 1857 and 1905.
Brougham Hall passed out of the ownership of the Brougham family in 1934 and fell into decay. It was then abandoned and Winston Churchill used it for the development of one of the Allies five most top secret weapons of WWII. This only added it to its decay. Today it's still a ruin but it is part of a restoration programme with parts of the buildings being used as workshops.
