New year get together

We lit the stove in the garden room and set up the fire-pit on the patio where we barbecued sausages. We drank wine and talked about music and  life and old times. One conversation was about self driving cars and if they could be programmed to make good decisions in a scenario where a choice had to be made about which human had to be sacrificed in order to save another. Most of it revolved around a woman with a pram and an old lady with a walking stick. Sometimes the old lady was a healthy marathon runner, sometimes there was no baby in the pram and other times there were fantastical variations. We concluded that the main problem lies with the making of moral choices. Mapping those things onto the computer system that drives the car is a dawdle by comparison.  In the middle of all this the rain came down but somehow the barbecue and the sausages survived. We had lots of fun asking Siri to play our favourite music, which, with three generations present, was varied. Grace, as ever, proved to be the most photogenic.
