The Best Laid Plans
Happy new year everyone and all the very best wishes for 2022!
There's usually a physical nativity scene in Plaza St Jaume and people queue up to view it. However, because of covid, the local government decided this year to do something different, and here's an example of it, a donkey lit up on the local government building on the square. There were also dogs, ducks, roosters, ducks and cats on the other buildings in the square and surrounding streets. I was never really taken with the nativity square in the square anyway, and I'm still not sure about this version.
The rest of the day was all about 'the best laid plans of mice and men'. Our main course today was to be grilled prawns, in a marinade of olive oil, lemon juice.lemon zest and garlic. I made the marinade late morning, but when we took the prawns out the fridge we weren't convinced by the freshness, despite the fact that we'd bought them just two days ago from a good source and they said they'd be fine for new year's day. We decided not to risk it.
Anyway, off we went out for a walk, keen to take advantage of the day, walked down into centre, and had both half decided we might go for an Indian meal to Rasoi when it opened at 7.30. We had been walking from 2pm and when we called Rasoi at 7pm to double check it was open, although they'd said it was, we found out it wasn't!! Change of plan again! We were close to Bar Paris in Calle París by that time and so ate there - meatballs, chips and some morcilla (black pudding) to start. A good step count of 16,500 steps when we arrived home and watched the Christmas episode of Call the Midwife.
