Sundown

Looking over the Kent estuary, with the sun setting beyond Arnside.

We’ve had a fairly quiet day. A late night last night, so we’re both a bit tired.

This morning a short walk from our door. There has been a lot of rain in recent weeks and days, everywhere is very wet with many footpaths under water. In the pools in the nearby fields the teal were very noisy, and it soon was clear why. A marsh harrier was hunting. It was flushing the snipe, flocks of these fast flying waders were moving fast around.

In the afternoon before it got dark we travelled to nearby Arnside. There were lots of people around, too busy for us, so we headed north along the coast road. And it was here we stopped to watch the sun going down. What was equally fascinating were the large flocks of starlings skimming over the estuary, I guess heading to their roosting site at Leighton Moss.,

So a good first day of 2022. I’m sure this year will be as topsy turvy as the last two years have been. We just take each day, week and month at a time. It’s important to enjoy the moments. And we’ve certainly done that today.
