Mostly Six Five Oh

Redwood Creek

The city has recently completed a pedestrian and bicycle path underneath the 101.  This now allows direct access to/from downtown out to the bay.  There's another pedestrian access but involves dicing with death crossing a freeway bridge/on ramp combo at Whipple Ave.

This is a cool thing, and definitely something that was lacking.  But have to confess this underpass is not one I will be taking alone as my deeply ingrained female-avoid-underpass/similar area-setting kicks off right away.  A walk to do with a someone.

There are gates either end, for during the king tides, I only skimmed a local blog about the set up, I'll have to read it more thoroughly.  Also an emergency call station, but only noticed at one end...

The path leads out by the Marriott hotel and in one direction it takes you past what is left of Docktown.  There's been a long drawn out legal battle over the floating homes here.  Most of the ones left are boarded up.

Anyway, an interesting and chilly walk through an area little visited by us unless with the car for a walk on Bair Island.
