Covenanters Grave

I have been meaning to take a run to the Covenanters Grave for ages, it’s on a bleak windswept hill in the Pentlands. Exploring with a friend today was a good excuse to go and find it.

Following the battle of Rullion Green in Penicuik in 1666 one of the defeated Covenanting force, mortally wounded, made it as far the house of a shepherd, Adam Sanderson. Realising he was soon to die, he asked Sanderson to bury him within sight of his native Ayrshire hills. Sanderson found him dead the next morning. At great risk to himself, Sanderson buried the covenanter near the summit of Black Law, from where the Ayrshire Hills can be seen on a clear day.
