Alkimos
Alkimos is a newly developed suburb a short drive from where we live, we drove here for a walk and a coffee.
There is a cargo ship that sunk in 1963 around 400 mts from the shore (extra you can just see the top of the ship where it went down on the reef) she had damaged its propeller further along the coast, her last voyage she was on her way from Indonesia to Bunbury.
The Alkimos was originally a WW11 Liberty ship, a 7,291 ton supply ship her first launch was back in 1943 where she carried supplies from Britain to America, after the war she carried cargo all around the world, in her final years she became a Greek freighter. Sadly all attempts to refloat her in 1963 failed and two years later she was declared a wreck and sold as scrap.
Today the wreck is a recreational and educational diving location, also the inspiration behind the naming of the nearby suburb.
Also a very interesting walk for us today.
