Seal Watch
Although an overcast day, the weather was mild and we decided to go out to Montauk Point after all. It is a good 90 minute drive without any traffic, but it is a lovely, scenic ride. In season this place has become a beach resort. Thirty years ago it was a sleepy fishing village. We stopped at the lighthouse (circa 1790) even though the grounds were closed for the season, but I could still get photos. There were a couple of surfers that we just barely caught when we got there. After we went to find the seals. There is a trail you follow through a heavily wooded state park that brings you to the dunes where you can see them. The trail was enchanting with a little creek, moss covered ground, and some interesting trees.
There were 6 seals posing for us, three on each rock. The seal photos are heavily cropped because I don’t have (yet) a long enough lens.
Highlights of the day are in the extras.
Before going home we stopped at a tavern in the town for a late lunch.
Afterwards we stopped by mom and dads for a bit and then headed home.
