On This Day In History
1892: J.R.R. Tolkein is born
Quote Of The Day
"Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It's a way of understanding it."
(Lloyd Alexander)
Bonus Quote Of The Day
"If you don't turn your life into a story, you just become a part of someone else's story."
(Sir Terry Pratchett)
I finished reading Hyperion by Dan Simmons a couple of days ago. I enjoyed that and, considering that the novel ends on a HUGE cliffhanger, I would have immediately sought out the sequel, Hyperion Falls, and jumped straight into that. However, while I was reading Hyperion, this book arrived. I have been longing to read this book after getting hooked on Ken Liu's epic Dandelion Dynasty saga with the first two books, The Grace Of Kings and Wall Of Storms. This is truly a masterwork of world building and will surely stand alongside the works of such luminaries as J.R.R. Tolkien, Frank Herbert, Ursula K. Le Guin and J.K. Rowling in the fantasy world-building genre. A marvelous way to immerse yourself in Chinese mythology and history, too, as Liu deftly weaves both into this epic tale.
The fourth book of the Dandelion Dynasty quartet, Speaking Bones, is already on order from Amazon; I can't wait!
