Dajarra sunrise, outback Queensland.
I typed in a whole account of how this early water colour painting of mine came into being, then lost the lot!
So frustrating!
I was sorting out my old Art folder in the course of our ongoing decluttering, when I came across it.
It was from a photo taken by our son Alan of the sunrise when he was staying in an Aborigine community in Dajarra working alongside his host Tim (for a couple of weeks visit to the community), whose father had founded the school there many years before.
Tim headed up SE Queensland's Scripture Union's work with young people, and also the school's chaplaincies, which are seen as important out in Queensland. Their main base is Brisbane. Alan flew out there in October 2003, as part of his gap year before going on to University in October 2004. He was there 9 months.
It was a life changing experience.
His taste in food had broadened considerably on his return!
We flew out there in February 2004, for 3 and a half weeks to stay and Tim very kindly hosted us.
It is a long story as to how Tim knew Alan.
The bare bones being that our Matt and Heidi hosted Tim's brother and his new wife for 3 months in 2002, due to another connection.
Simon and his wife were over here working for a bit. They came to us for dinner one evening, along with Matt and Heidi, and during the course of the conversations asked Alan if he was thinking of a gap year.
And so the rest is now history.
So my blip today is a trip way back down memory lane.
